Flower Offering

花，是大自然中最美的礼物，万紫千红、浓香淡雅，各具特色。供花是佛教最提倡的供养方式之一。因为花清净、美丽，最能代表人们的恭敬虔诚之心。

《佛为首迦长者说业报差别经》记载：
若有众生。奉施香华。得十种功德。
一者、处世如花。
二者、身无臭秽。
三者、福香戒香。遍诸方所。
四者、随所生处。鼻根不坏。
五者、超胜世间。为众归仰。
六者、身常香洁。
七者、爱乐正法。受持读诵。
八者、具大福报。
九者、命终生天。
十者、速证涅槃。

Flowers are the most beautiful object in nature. The appearance, colour, smell, and feel of a flower reminds us of beauty and purity in life. Thus, flowers are considered to be one of the noblest offerings to the Buddha.

Flowers represent the teaching of impermanence, a central concept in Buddhism. The offering of flowers reminds us that just as the beautiful flowers will wither away after some time, every life will one day end.

“This mass of flowers, fresh hued and fragrant,
I offer at the sacred lotus-like feet of the Noble sage.
I offer Thee, Lord Buddha, these flowers.
May this virtue aid in my emancipation.
Just as these flowers fade, our bodies, too, will undergo decay. “
